The Fabulous 40’s

August 22, 2008

Q: I often see women who can carefully craft the look of 1940’s fashion.  I really admire the look but am looking for a more subtle approach.  Where do I start?

A: Fashion from the 1940’s is so often replicated because it had so many flattering looks for women!  The silhouettes were soft and tailored to enhance a woman’s hips.  Clothing of the time emerged in rich, saturated hues.  These are the details you’ll look for when you shop for pieces that capture this era.

The dresses and boat-neck shirt below are good examples.  Envision yourself wearing them with modest jewelry and a small hat if you dare (think feathers for fall!).  Select a shoe with a wider heel, or wedges with cork or wood.  A smidgen of red or maroon lipstick and a bit of wave in your hair will complete the look.   Feel free to keep it as simple and subtle as you like.

These items by Soundgirl will be available in Crossroads stores next week.*
