Miss These Much?

It’s cold; possibly damp and possibly snowy. Sometimes it can be hard to work up the energy to feel fashionable, but with tall boots being a huge trend for fall, these brown boots from Miss Me will get you through winter in knee-high style… They’re so comfortable!

So worry not, at only $30 and arriving in Crossroads stores* at the end of this week, you’ll be able to get your feet a new pair of best friends very soon and feel good all over. Even if it is negative one million degrees outside…

Along for the Ride

It was designer Laura Bennett from Season 3 of Project Runway who brought riding boots to my attention.  I have admittedly been addicted ever since, something that is no secret to my co-workers who see me in boots, leggings and dresses year round.

When our corporate buyers returned from the fashion shows in Las Vegas, they let me know that an order of riding boots was on the way.  And after much anticipation, they arrived yesterday afternoon in all of their black and caramel glory! These will undoubtedly make many dresses “countryside chic” and are a steal at $28.50.

Compare these with much pricier boots from retailers like Ralph Lauren, Steve Madden and Urban Outfitters:

They start arriving in all Crossroads stores* next week and come in solid black too.  Let the long autumn strolls begin!

Sandals With Style

Q: Is it possible to wear sandals and still look fashionable?

A: Definitely.  As a rule of thumb, look for sandals with special details, like pretty clasps or straps in metallic or snakeskin.   Then, consider this: while a great pair of sandals can look fresh with trouser cut jeans and a boatneck sweater, they usually look best with lighter, loose fabrics like knit jersey, linen or cotton.

A great example is the purple knit dress and silver sandals below. The look says, “Meet me for brunch at Pastis.” And imagine the same sandals with a full skirt and cap-sleeve blouse: “I’m late for dinner in Trastevere.  May I catch a ride on the back of your Vespa?”

Hmmm…can you tell I have vacation on my mind this Friday afternoon?

The pieces below come in different colors and will arrive in Crossroads stores next week.*

I imagine the flats below with jeans and a school boy blazer, and the ankle boots with black tights and a brightly colored silk mini-dress.  But I trust that you fashionable readers will find a look that is all your own.

Both pairs shipped out to all Crossroads stores this week.*

Updating On A Budget

Q: I want to update my wardrobe for the summer, but I am working with a limited budget. If I can only splurge on a few things for the new season, what would you suggest?

A: Select a neutral tone high-waist skirt if you plan to spend the summer working your dream internship.  If your plans include summer travel, a quality wide-leg trouser pant will keep you relaxed and stylish.

A big clutch will add a splash to your evening wear, and a new belt (go for BIG and shiny) will update a cardigan, dress or flowy blouse.

If your social calendar includes a number of summer weddings, your best splurges may be a bright print dress and a pair of soft leather heels to dance the night away in.

These incredibly-priced heels and wedges from Shoes For Lovely People are my suggestion.  They’re on the way to your local Crossroads store this week.*

Spring Cleaning

Q: I pledge to clean out my closet before my next shopping trip.  Which fashion pieces should I hold on to for the upcoming seasons, and which pieces should I purge?

A:  It is always a good idea to keep your closet uncluttered and season appropriate! You probably have a few favorite pieces that you’ll want to keep in your closet, but fashion-wise, here are some general guidelines:

Keep these pieces within reach: fitted vests, pencil skirts, skinny jeans, ankle boots, wide belts, cardigans, t-strap heels, patent leather accessories, scarves, ankle boots, shirtdresses, ballet flats and trench coats.

Put the following into storage: kitten heels, shoes with pointed toes, low rise pieces, tiered skirts, destructed denim and heavily-embellished pieces.

May I put these fabulous t-strap wedges at the top of your shopping list?

They arrive in our stores next week.*
